Orchestration 101 - A course for musician and non-musicians alike.

Updated: Mar 19, 2019

If you have an aspiration and you want it manifested into a certain form, all you need is the unfading clarity to witness Life beautifully orchestrate this music. I know many have heard this concept from the law of attraction brigade, but this has nothing to do with attracting anything or anyone towards you. It has everything to do with who you really are, who you know yourself to be.

When you know that you are the music and life is the composer, you know it through and through, balls to bones, then all stands clear. You don’t see any more separation between you and Life. The idea of attracting something to you means there are things out there that are separate from you and you need to attract them to you. This concept is the very obstacle that creates a society of blind materialists who will never be content with what they have. They’ll keep wanting to attract more and more things.

First of all, you must surrender to the fact that you are the music life plays – meaning you are Life itself. This sounds a bit wacky and sugary? That’s ok, there is a pragmatic approach to this. You have to train yourself to dis-identify from the character you're playing on this stage you call your life. This is another way of saying don’t take things personally. Be vigilant to see what’s not true before your emotions use you to jump to conclusions. Meditate, practice, work on improving a specific skillset necessary for your craft, be consistent, have faith and patience and soon you can sit back and enjoy as life masterfully orchestrates your wishes for you.

A note about faith: when I say have faith I don’t necessarily mean have faith in God. Having faith means surrendering to that inner clarity, inner sensing, inner feeling; the inner knowing that is so strong, sincere, bright and well-lit so that there won’t be even a tiny bit of dark corner where doubt can lurk in.

Meditate often - sit quietly several minutes a day, listen listen listen with your full attention, remain true to what it is you want without separating what you want from what you are and you will witness how life brings the exact people and the exact circumstances - all the colorful instruments - that are needed for this orchestration project, this composition, this music. If some people or circumstances don’t work in this orchestration, life takes them away with a well nuanced pianissimo or a rigidly planned sforzando – which kind of means suddenly. Trust that it’s all ok. New instruments will be introduced into the game and the ones that left, will find their own magnificent music.

At times it may seem that there is no tonality – all sounds atonal and chaotic, and at times it may seem that there is a tonal center and balance. Trust the process, which means be ok with not knowing, and be patient.

If there are any extra skills that I would suggest that you develop and refine besides those needed for your craft is open-mindedness - the skill to be able to hear and understand that atonality and tonality are both music. I don’t care how you do it - develop your ear, the left side of the brain, or the right side for Christ’s sake. Become an open canvas for all of life’s nuances whether it’s the unstable, harsh and unpleasant dissonance or the more rooted, sweet and pleasant consonance. Trust that all is music and know it well in your heart.

Some will wonder if Life is the composer and we are the music being played, then are we puppets? Who then makes the choice of having an aspiration, improving skills, meditating, and asking life to manifest it for us? If we are the music, the product of life’s orchestration, then how can we make a choice?

Choice is an illusion, an unnecessary mental creation, precisely because we are the music being played. How do we know it wasn’t life orchestrating our so-called troubles and failures to begin with so that it could orchestrate our successes and achievements?

It’s all one piece of music being played in perpetuity and all the instruments necessary for Life to play the music that we are need not be attracted to us for they are permanently playing together at all times - outside of time.

It’s all one.
