Sprezzatura - Effortless Grace…It sounds as if this is a special phrase that belongs to some genius artist, dancer, a craftswoman or man…but it belongs to all of us. It’s our birthright. When one observes a black panther - my favorite cat, in nature, one sees the effortless grace present within every gentle placement of her paw, every pupil’s constriction and dilation in response to different stimuli such as focus and concentration.
All of nature is one - we are all God’s children, yet somehow human beings are clumsy, heavy, grumpy, egoistic, narcissistic, weary and bored out of their asses. Why? Why are we so late in claiming our birthright in being effortless and graceful in what we do, or how we live? Why must we do years of practice in a certain artform or craft in order to become graceful? Why doesn’t it come natural to us? Ha?
Have you ever thought about that?
Unlike all animals, we are self aware animals - which means we know that we know… yet we move and live in the most unaware, unnatural fashion. We have forgotten that grace is within us. The animals don’t have to remember that fact because they never forgot it; they never veiled their inner grace by deluding themselves into thinking that they are supposed to be something other than what they already are.
Next time you feel sorry for yourself because someone has done something to you that has hurt you, get up, walk to the door… open the door gracefully - feeling every ounce of fresh air or the damn heat coming from outside. Take a deep breath. Another one. Yes, another. Isn’t breathing your birthright? Walk with a soft foot, follow by another soft foot, then another, then another… then dance your way to the closest tree. Stand by it, look at it, find the bird effortlessly singing on it…let go of your narcissistic self-benighting thoughts and join the bird in her graceful and effortless dance by actually listening to it. Listen to the bird and you’ll understand why no one ever can take your grace away from you.
