Everything is flying together at all times. Everything is happening at once, all together, interconnectedly, in perpetuity, in this very moment: a car turning left at the stop sign, a north wind blowing south, a grandmother passing, a couple at a rock concert making out, a trapped dog struggling in the sewer, a bright star shining in the sky, a pain in a janitor’s shoulder, a genius composer dying in poverty, an ant colony dragging a dead lion’s head, a fairy tale being told to a sleeping beauty, a humpback whale calf being eaten by a pod of killer whales, wine being poured into a coffee mug, dirty tupperware in the sink with a piece of old pasta and meatball in it, a woman kissing a man’s eyelids, an old fisherman who endures suffering to capture a great big fish after going eighty-four days without catching a single fish thinking of physical pain as well as of the suffering of animals, a teacher punishing a little boy by pulling on his ear and slapping his face, a humpback calf being born, a little girl hugging his father and promising to never let go…all happening right now, in this very moment, interconnectedly and interrelatedly … how then can anything be isolated from all that is therefore personal? It can’t. Nothing is personal. The breath doesn’t need our permission to breathe us.
