I always felt at home in the renaissance and baroque sections of any museum. It was relaxing to stand in front of a master piece. I never knew or asked why but now I see why: The essence of their work, no matter the subject matter, was to show the extremities of the human ego. They showed us that the world was not always a pleasant place for all beings because humans failed to evolve internally. The main interest of human evolution was directed mainly outward towards materialism, and the revered guides of humanity - religion and now science - were successful in diverging us from the path of inward absorption, true knowledge.
Nothing much has changed. In the old days, we used to ride a donkey to travel from point A to point B. Now the donkey has wings, but it’s still the same donkey but travels faster from point A to B. We greedily evolved outwardly, like an expanded stomach after 5 steaks, 5 beers, and a cake, but remained pretty contracted, oblivious, and unaware of our inner reality.
The brilliant and masterfully complex technique of the renaissance artists didn’t overshadow their inner awareness of reality. They tried informing us in many ways.
There were and still are some sane artists that try pointing us to the right direction through art, but the high rise buildings of Dubai block the view. Humanity remains a collective organism drowning in materialism. Even spiritual practices have become materialistic.
