Listen to the Body Sing

Listening to the body as if it’s a musical instrument is an essential part of being human. The subtle parts of the human organism - that which we don’t see, is the very part that connects us to other beings, nature, and the whole universe. These invisible channels work like conduits that conduct life force energy throughout the body. It is this life force energy that keeps the body alive and functioning; it is the organizing principle of the body. There is only one life force energy and it is the common thread that connects us all.

These conduits that carry this energy need to be aligned and tuned. Practices like yoga, breathing, tai chi, other marshal arts can help us align them well so we feel healthy and balanced. Even though these are the most effective ways to do it, yoga being the top in my opinion, one does not need to do any of these practices for there are other simpler ways to bring oneself into inner alignment.

Sitting straight regularly and being aware of one’s own posture over time can bring good inner alignment to the body. Breathing consciously into the depth of our bodies while we sit straight can also help. Feeling our bodies from the inside is another great way to stay in tune. From time to time, stretching the arms up and breathing deeply can help too.

The most important part of all this is the listening - the paying attention. A musician when tuning her instrument, has to listen to the notes as she tenses the string with the tuning pegs while plucking it to make sure she finds the right pitch. We have to listen to our bodies the same way. We have feel our subtle body from the inside while we walk, stretch, breathe, dance, play an instrument, sculpt, or drive a car. This kind of inward absorption will keep our bodies well aligned and healthy. Our minds will stay calm and not distracted because of being inwardly grounded. We will be healthy in our bodies and minds.

We can’t be fully human if we are not aware of all the layers that make us human - including those that we don’t see. Especially those that we don’t see.

PS. Taking regular naps in nature also will help
